Inclement Weather Procedures

Last week, our Superintendent provided updated guidance on weather procedures for this winter. The Division provided further details yesterday as well. Today, I would like to share specific information relative to our school and weather procedures.

PWCS will continue to have Code Red Days this school year and beyond when conditions warrant their use in severe weather emergencies. During Code Red, schools and offices will be closed, students will not be assigned required work, and teachers will consider the missed instructional time when scheduling tests or deadlines.

PWCS has added a new code, Code Orange, for days when weather may be marginal such as when road conditions are uncertain, or unsafe, for a limited period. Code Orange may be used in lieu of days that in previous years were delayed openings.

For the 2021-22 school year, students should use these Code Orange days for asynchronous learning as an opportunity to complete work assigned and/or to receive support from their teacher during posted office hours that will be between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. according to the following schedule. Our teachers are in the process of loading Zoom links and communications details on class Canvas pages for students to use during Code Orange days.

9:00 – 10:00 am English, Physical Education, Library, ITC and Tech Support

10:00 – 11:00 am Social Studies, Special Education, Gifted Education, English as a Second Language

11:00 – 12:00 pm Math, Family & Consumer Sciences

12:00 – 1:00 pm Science, Fine & Performing Arts

1:00 – 2:00 pm World Languages, Career & Technical Education, Business

Students who need a device to access assignments will be encouraged the day ahead of potential weather to take their computer home. If your family needs assistance with at-home internet, please contact Justin Holly via email at: [email protected]

As we plan for increased communication during the winter months, it is important that all contact information is updated in ParentVUE to ensure that you are receiving important school messages. Additionally, caregiver information should also remain current to ensure the safety of your child in the event of an early closure. If you need assistance updating your ParentVUE, please contact Ms. Hope Nugent at [email protected]

More information on weather closings can be found on the PWCS Closings, Delays, and Emergencies webpage..

Thank you for your support and cooperation.
