Traffic Guidelines & Concerns

Dear Gainesville High School Parent or Guardian,

I am writing to ask for your assistance if you drive your child to and from school. I am concerned that several drivers who drop children off at school are not following the specified traffic pattern (see attached diagram). This, in turn, is leading to a safety concern as students walk across the drop off loop in lieu of being dropped at the curb, and some drivers disregard lane markings on campus.

If you drive your child to school, we ask you to adhere to the following expectations:

Please turn left onto school grounds at the end of University Boulevard (the entrance closest to the school marquee and tennis courts).
Use a single file traffic pattern to loop around in front of the school.
Pull forward toward door number 4 (at the corner of the school closest to the bus loop) to drop students as far forward in the loop as possible.
Refrain from entering visitor parking lots/spaces to drop students or exit the student drop offline (the lot in front of the school will be coned off in the morning).
Remain in line and follow traffic flow back to University to exit school grounds.

These directions are intended to retain an orderly, predictable traffic environment for the safety of our students and faculty and staff. As drop-off line traffic has increased in recent weeks, I recommend drivers who drop students at school to arrive on campus prior to 7:15 am. This will avoid a rush and heavy traffic immediately prior to the start of the school day.

Thank you for your assistance in keeping our students safe in and around our parking lots each the morning.

Sincerely,

Neil Beech
