GHS Specialty Program Requirements

Students who wish to transfer to attend Gainesville High School may apply using the PWCS Specialty Program Application to one of our three transferable pathways including: the Biomedical Sciences Pathway, the Engineering, Design and Construction Pathway, or the Math Pathway. Students who are zoned for Gainesville High School are automatically considered a part of the Pathways to Global Citizenship program and do not need to apply to Gainesville High School through the PWCS Specialty Program Application.

Who Can Apply?

Applications for these programs are open to rising 9th , 10th, and 11th grade students who attend the following schools:

  • Project Lead the Way Biomedical Sciences Pathway- is open to students whose base zone high school is Battlefield High School, Brentsville High School, Gainesville High School, Patriot High School, or Unity Reed High School.
  • Engineering, Design, and Construction Pathway- is open to students whose base zone high school is Battlefield High School, Gainesville High School, Osbourn Park High School, or Unity Reed High School.
  • Math Pathway- is open to students whose base zone high school is Battlefield High School, Brentsville High School, Gainesville High School, Patriot High School, or Unity Reed High School.

What are the Acceptance Requirements?

To be considered for acceptance at Gainesville High School for one of our three transferable pathways in the Pathways to Global Citizenship Program a student must be:

In good academic standing

  • Definition: have a C or above in all classes during Semester 1 of the current school year.

In good attendance standing

  •  Definition: not chronically absent - i.e. not missing 10% or more of school

In good discipline standing

  • Have had no discipline record for the past 12 months for the following PWCS Code of Behavior Offenses: Bullying and Cyberbullying, Fighting, Disruptive Behavior, Hazing, Prohibited Substances (Tobacco, Electronic Cigarettes, Vaping), Vandalism or Other Damage to School or Personal Property. Have had no discipline record ever for the following PWCS Code of Behavior Offenses: Alcohol Use and Possession, Arson, Assault and Battery, Bomb Threat, Gang or Gang-Related Activity, Harassment - Including Sex-Based Harassment, Prohibited Substances (Drugs, Alcohol, Marijuana), Theft, Threats Against Students and Staff, Weapons

Students applying to the Math Pathway must also meet the following course enrollment and performance criteria:

Course Enrollment Criteria:

  • Rising 9th graders (current 8th graders) must be enrolled in Algebra I or a higher-level math course.
  • Rising 10th graders (current 9th graders) must be enrolled in Geometry or a higher-level math course.
  • Rising 11th graders (current 10th graders) must be enrolled in Algebra II or a higher-level math course.

Math Performance:

Must have a B or higher in their current math class
