Behind the Wheel

Behind the Wheel Driver Education

Gainesville High School

Prince William County Public Schools

All Summer Sessions for Summer BTW are full.  Mr. Bailey will begin accepting Academic School year registrations the week of August 12th.

Behind-the-wheel (BTW), in-car instruction is offered as an after-school and summer program at each Prince William County Public High School. The course costs $240 and consists of 14 lessons typically taught in 7 sessions. Half the time is devoted to driving and the other half to observation. The course starts with two days of range driving followed by five days of driving in residential, open, and interstate roadways. The seventh day of instruction also includes the student's road test.

Your teen may begin BTW once classroom driver education is completed or if your teen is currently completing the classroom driver education course at a PWCS high school and has completed at least 10 hours of classroom instruction. The student must have a valid Virginia learner's permit and 10 hours of supervised driving with a licensed parent/guardian driver.
